Macbook vs 13" Mid 2009 Macbook Pro

How can I expect the Macbook to perform in comparison to my 2009 macbook pro?

Primary use is Web browsing and Email with some limited use of MS Office (relatively simple spreadsheets) and Photoshop Elements.

The 2009 MBP was recently upgraded to a solid state drive.

If you intend to do only web browsing, checking emails, using MS office then the new macbook will be relatively faster than even your 2009 macbook pro. Note that the new macbook however equipped with a basic intel Core M processor, is equipped with a much more advanced PCI storage SSD. In comparison the SSD on your Macbook will be relatively a bit slower to respond.

So, the end result will be much faster loading of web browser, faster loading of email, faster loading of MS office and even faster loading of photoshop elements and faster boot. Also, the internet connectivity will be better, as it comes with AC connectivity.

BUT

The new macbook will be missing the RAW power of your 2009 macbook pro only if your macbook pro can be equipped with 8 GB RAM (8GB is Max). 4 GB RAM on you macbook pro can be a thing to worry as you won’t be able to multitask but you can upgrade it to Max 8 GB on a 2009 machine. The processor doesn’t matter because even the older core 2 duo will throw the intel Core M processor out of water....😁 😁

Hope this helps.....

In all ways better and faster. The low power CPU of the new Macbook is much faster than the CPU in the mid-2009 MBP; about 1300 single/2400 multi core geek bench for the mid-2009 2.26GHz vs 2150 single/4540 multi core for the base 1.1GHz 2015 Macbook. The Intel HD 5300 graphics on the Macbook kill the Nvidia 9400 graphics of the 2009 MBP, the PCIe based SSD kills the at best SATA II spinning disk of the MBP, and will be faster than a SATA II SSD, assuming that the SSD actually connects at 3Gbs, many only manage 1.5Gbs on the mid-2009. The new Macbook comes equipped wit 8GB RAM, which is the maximum a mid-2009 MBP can have, but most do not. My daughters was shipped with 2GB. The retina screen is vastly higher resolution, the batter last far longer, and the machine is lighter. A far better machine for the tasks you list.
