Compressor did upgrade to 4.2

Final Cut Pro purchased Mar 08, 2013.
Click 'install' button and I'm informed that "Final Cut is already installed on this computer.
Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates."
I follow through and under 'Updates' everything is listed for the last 30 days - Except FCPX.

Also, do you have more than one start-up disk?
Final Cut versions 10.1.1 through 10.1.4 - last update Dec 16, 2014.

Try this: In your Applications folder, go to Final Cut Pro (.app) and zip (Compress) the file to back it up. Delete the original while retaining the zipped backup version. Return to the App Store and see whether it will now download the 10,2 version.

Tried. Went through your suggestion(s) and still says fcpx installed - check for updates.
I'm in a closed loop.
Do you have some other drive that has the application? When you trash the app what do you see in the Purchases page? It should say Install. If it says Open the app is still there somewhere.
I don't know what it sees to give yo that message,
FCS Remover is a utility that should remove any stray files.

Yes, it does say 'install' and when I click the button the dialogue/message box comes up with the following;
'We could not complete your purchase.
Final Cut is already installed on this computer.
Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates.'
Do you have any other drives attached included Time machine that might have the app? Do you have any legacy versions of FCP installed? If not you need to contact the App Store.
Data drive disconnected, no fcp legacy. No Time machine. Have contacted Apple - wary of response.

Alongside the Apple Support Community is Apple App Support.
I hardly knew of each other's existence until now. Somehow I stumbled on App Support,
called the toll free #, spoke to a technician, and the 'problem' was resolved.
Dropped fcp program into trash along with .app. Install then worked, 10.2.0 loaded and everything seems to be well.
Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions.
