i can see the thumbnail in "my videos" on iTunes, but cannot locate the file - what gives?

I'm using the latest version of iTunes on my Mac (OS X 10.9.5) - I can see the thumbnail of the video I want to play in iTunes, my videos, but it won't play because "original file could not be found". What gives? I never delete anything, backing everything up to my Mac and an external drive. It's my sister-in-laws wedding video(s) - I'm a dead man if I can't find them. Thanks! I think I took the videos a few years back with a BlackBerry, if that matters.

Hi Fun Johnny,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that you are unable to play videos because of an alert notifying you that the original files cannot be found. In this situation, I would recommend working through the suggested steps in the attached article to try and locate these files.
