Messages not sending to non iphone users

I used to be able to run ALL of my messages through the message program on my macbook - including SMS messages. I upgraded from iPhone 5 16gb to iPhone 6 64gb yesterday and I can no longer run SMS messages from my macbook pro. Is there a way for me to fix this issue?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.3

Hi,

The iPhone and the iPad need to be using an Apple ID and to be on the same LAN

On the iPhone in Settings > Messages > Send and Receive you should add the Apple ID

The iPhone then needs to be on the same LAN as the iPad.

The iPad needs to be using the same Apple ID.

This will link the iMessages Part.

If the two are on the Same LAN then text Forwarding on the iPhone should be an option.

Also "Send and SMS" also needs to be enabled.

Enabling it should cause the iPad version to show a pop up with a Code Number on it that needs to be entered back on the iPhone.

Hi,

On the iPhone Turn Off the text Forwarding then turn it On again and then use the new Code number the Mac should show you.

Basically reset it.

You may need to try different lengths of time before you turn it On again to prompt the Mac to deliver the Code number.

Hi,

This Thread is in Mavericks (Mac OS X 10.9.x) but does refer to Text Forwarding (SMS to Mac) which does not come out until iOS 8 on the iPhone and Yosemite on the Mac (OS X 10.10)

Of course the most current Mac OS X is 10.11.x

Could you tell us which iOS the iPhone is using and which OS X the Mac is using please ?

On the iPhone in Settings > Messages > Text Forwarding is the Mac listed ?

Is the iPhone on the same LAN as the Mac ?

This would tend to mean that the iPhone is set to join using WiFi which you might have turned Off then the iPhone was somewhere else.

My problem is not the same as the people's above. Instead, on my messages on my macbook I would like to text my boyfriend but it's not letting me because it's saying he doesn't have iMessage. However, he has an iPhone 6 and his iMessage is definitely turned on. I am able to text other friends who have iPhones, he is the only one it isn't letting me message. Is there anything that we can do to fix this problem?

Hi,

The Messages app on the Mac can do both iMessages and Texts if you also have an iPhone and have set it up to do Text (SMS) Forwarding.

I am not sure if you are using the terms interchangeably or whether you mean you are SMS texting some friends.

When you have his name in the "To" spot does it go Red ?

IF you then use his name as a Drop down, does it show his Apple ID or iPhone Number as the Contact info ?

Is there a Country Code in front of the number if it is the number ?

Hi,

On the iPhone you are sending from (even if using Text Forwarding to allow a Mac to join in) you need to have enabled the "Send as SMS" and possibly the MMS option as well which is below the Send and Receive options.
