Can a windows computer plug in to an Airport Time Capsule

When I purchased the Time Capsule I understood that a Windows 8.1 computer could plug into the capsule the same as My iMac desk top and could also use the back-up on the time capsule. Is this correct?

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), Airport Time Capsule purchased 2014

Yes, but you'll need to pick a backup product or method capable of backing up to network drives; Apple doesn't make any Windows software for this purpose.
