I am using Time machine to back up wirelessly to my old Time Capsule. Do I still need to connect it by ethernet cable to the Mac to do the transfer of old backups to my new TC?

Do I need to use an ethernet cable between my old Time Capsule and my MAC as well as between old and new TC in order to transfer backups? I am now using Time Machine to back up wirelessly.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Using ethernet will hugely improve the data transfer speed.. the problem on wireless is all data is transferred old TC.. computer .. computer.. new TC.

So for wireless you greatly hinder the data flow.. ethernet might be 5-10x faster.

If you do go ethernet actually turn off the wireless while it is running.

Expect a fair time to transfer large backups.. around 50GB/hr..
