Updated iPhone5s but headphones not working

I updated the software on my iPhone5S last night and now it will only play music through standard Apole ear buds.

I use Panasonic ones for running. They worked before the update and still work in my ipod but not my iPhone5S.

Baffled but I'm guessing there is a simple answer....??
