My iPod touch 5th generation microphone will not work

The microphone will not work at all. It does not make a sound when someone texts me. I can not listen to music. Siri does not work. I can not make a voice recording. I have tried resetting it and powering it off. I have had this iPod touch 5th generation for 3 days and the microphone only worked the first day. I did not smash it or damage it in any way.

I'm pretty mad since it's brand new.

- Make sure the mic hole is clear and unobstructed. It is the little hole on the back by the camera lens

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Done

- Reset all settings not clear you did this

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. See:

iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
