How can I back up all photos from iPhoto successfully as i still cannot open my iPhoto app.
Can i go the classic way, drag and drop from its folder?

Yes.
Drag the entire iPhoto Library. In what is now the distant past, it was a folder of other folders in the "classic" sense. Now, it appears as one icon.

Thanks for the Time Machine - but the problem is - I never configured the Time Machine, so basically nothing has been backed up in there.
Is there any other way? It's obvious that my iMac is slowing down a lot!
First i will need to back up all my photos and musics - this is a real pain.....

You are running out of time (esp if you are still running the Mac) do something now, drag and drop, Time Machine, a clone. It won't matter which one you don't do, just backup now.

Yes; drag what you need to a backup device as you proposed. Depending on the aggregate size, a USB flash drive might be sufficient.
Otherwise, use Time Machine. The best time to do that would have been before a hard disk failure occurs. The second best time is now.
