I have not upgraded iOS of my iPhone 5 since long time. Currently, its iOS 7.0 on my iPhone, Can I install recent version of iOS 8.3 directly?

Sure! Just consider that since it is a whole different version, the installer it will need is large (over 1GB) and will take time to download. If you do it Over The Air, make sure you have at least 5GB free to avoid problems. That can be somewhat less if you do the updating using iTunes on a computer, which is a much safer and more reliable way.
