Wifi range on iPhone 5s

Hi,

Yesterday i got new device from apple, because previous one was broken. But i found out that the new device isn't able to catch wifi signal on the places where previous one was.

Is there any way how to range wifi signal in software settings? Or it is a hardware problem?

Btw. As a wifi router i use my MBA (early 2014) connected with thunderbolt ethernet.
