I don't know how to read my me.com emails? I used it so I know I am getting emails to my me.com and I thought they were being forwarded automatically to my gmail because my gmail is my Apple ID username, but I'm not getting them.

They will only be forwarded if you set that up yourself. You can see your iCloud emails by going to http://www.icloud.com and clicking the Mail icon, or by signing in in System Preferences (or Settings on an iOS device) > iCloud and then going to the Mail application.
