Q: Since installing Yosemite my printers' preferences, though set for "US Letter", always default to "Custom"

In the Print... dialog, select

          Show Presets...

from the Presets menu. In the sheet that drops down, uncheck the box marked

          Reset Presets Menu to "Default Settings" After Printing

Click OK. Then select

          Last Used Settings

or a custom preset that you created from the menu.
