Q: Can't log into iTunes account (error 0x80090326)

Please Help!

I logged off iTunes on my PC and now can't sign back into my account. I receive the following error "We could not complete your iTunes request. An unknown error occured (error 0x80090326). Because of this, I cannot backup, update or sync anything. For what it's worth my log in on iPhone works fine. I spoke to level 2 at Apple Care for hours and nothing works. I'm at a loss. Any solution would be appreciated

Windows XP

I have tried the following:

installing and reinstalling iTunes

flushing DNS

winsock review and repair

repair of QuickTime and iTunes

ensured iTunes was selected as exception for Windows Firewall

Windows XP patch from 2009 (suggested in previous post)

Also uninstalled anti-virus, turned off firewall. Nothing works

iPod touch, iOS 8.3, null

It doesn't seem to be a problem for the free stuff, like podcasts, which downloaded fine this morning.  It's just the paid programs for which I purchased the Season Passes.

The problem is I can't log into iTunes on the computer. The fact I'm heavily into music, I need access  transferring what I download to my iPhone or iPod which I can't when I'm unable to sync either device. Furthermore, iTunes deauthorized my computer and said all apps will be removed if I continue syncing without signing in.

Hopefully an update becomes available but doubt since we're dealing with outdated software. What a disaster

"Hopefully an update becomes available but doubt since we're dealing with outdated software. What a disaster"

Nothing to do with outdated software--it's a bug plain and simple (the tendency to give Apple the benefit of the doubt is touching, but misplaced).

iTunes is stated to work with Windows XP and it should do that. Windows XP didn't change, even iTunes didn't change. Some communication protocol of the App Store changed overnight and unannounced, and broke something that was working fine. One can argue that Windows XP is more stable now than it's every been (since it never gets updated it can never "break" :-)).

A future iTunes version that no longer supports XP owing to some new feature that XP doesn't support (or even just marketing decision by Apple) is one thing--people always have the option to stay with the older version and not get the new features. But breaking something that did work is a bug, and allowing such a blatant show-stopping defect to get out is supremely bad design, bad testing, and bad quality control.

I appreciate the insight. When do you anticipate a fix?

I hope you're right, I really REALLY hope you're right ... In the meantime I'm just waiting patiently for a fix from Apple & iTunes...

I also have this same issue. I am running XP Service Pack 3.

Anyone else try going to the Help tab and then "Run Diagnostics"? When I did this the following came up:

    Network interfaces verified

    Internet connection verified

Secure link to iTunes Store failed

Then it gives you an option to select help and gives an option of checking the date and time of your computer.

What perplexes me is I am running 12.1.2 of iTunes and was having no problems. I signed out of iTunes on 4/20/2015 in the evening and have not been able to log back in.

In addition to the 0x80090326 error I also get "We could not complete your iTunes Store Request. An unknown error occurred (-50). There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later."

Anyway, it's not the end of the world. You can still download and update Apps, etc., directly on your iPhone, iPad, or whatever with WiFi. When you sync, they will get uploaded to your PC from the device via iTunes. This bypasses iTunes' trying to connect to the App Store (which is the problematic part) but has the same end result. Syncing of everything else (notes, calendar, contacts) all work fine since they don't have anything to do with the App Store.

That only works if you have an iPhone or other Apple device available.

I just got off a 90 minute support call with Apple - As they requested it, I forwarded them my the information in the iTunes diagnostic and my msinfo32 data for them to see if they could find a problem.

Since this afternoon I still cannot log into my iTunes account, but at the very least now my iTunes diagnostics have been showing all green {including "secure link to itunes store verified"}. But the basic problem is still there- can't log into the store to purchase (or do anything else with iTunes that needs a log-in) because of "error -50" -- This does seem to be something affecting iTunes XP users. Apple didn't have a lot to tell me, but they said they would look into it.

Still think they're barking up the wrong tree. If so many XP users all have this problem starting the night of 20 Apr 2015, as seems to be the case, and we didn't all mess up our computers the same way that same night, it's clearly on their server end where the incompatibility was introduced. As long as they realize this, of course, there may be some helpful information in the diagnostic information you sent them. Did you point support to this thread?

Another thing: Are there XP systems that DON'T have this problem? While all of us here do, the number of people on this thread (even if just to say "I too have this problem" or even just to read it, is much smaller that I'd expect it to be if ALL XP users everywhere were having this problem. Well, no one who doesn't have this problem is likely to encounter this thread (I found it googling the error code, as I suspect most did), but if anyone here has access to multiple XP systems and is willing to try the experiment, it may be worth seeing whether or not there are some XP systems don't exhibit this problem.

I'm on XP and started having this problem yesterday.

What makes this painful for me is that I'm only using my old XP machine because Apple's 90 day policy is preventing me from downloading new episodes for any of my season passes or accessing iTunes Match on my main (Win 7 ) machine.

It's like they are intentionally trying to get rid of me.

I did direct the apple tech person to this thread, so hopefully they can glean something from that;  I don't know if this affecting all XP machines using iTunes or just a handful - of course, the more users that are affected, the more likely Apple will be to find & fix it (whatever the 'it' is). I've also noticed a few other random threads like this popping up since last night - like 'Can't log into iTunes store, using XP' - that sort of thing, but this seems to be the main thread. I wonder how widespread this problem is for XP users.

Exactly same problem here, "Unknown error occurred, try again later", blah-blah.

Sometime during April 19-21, Apple's iTunes servers "broke" and I cannot update free or paid apps.

I logged off my Apple store account, and cannot sign in again.

I only do manual updates of software, and I have not done any updates of any software for at least 2 weeks, except for Kaspersky anti-virus. However, even if I pause Kaspersky , no effect, same problem.

Running iTunes 11.4.0.18 under Windows XP Pro SP3, on Bootcamp 3.2 and a Macbook Pro.

What such a diverse group of users complaining, it pretty clearly has to be an Apple "cloud" problem and not local to my computer or ISP.
