Open the App Store and download Yosemite using it.
QTK is corrrect, the OSX after SnowLeopard (10.6.6-) are downloaded from the Appstore.
However before downloading and updating to Yosemite, I propose that you have enough memory to stay out of trouble with Yosemite: 4GB of Ram at least.

No retina MBP can run 10.6.8 natively. On the bottom of your MBP is the serial number enter it here:

That depends upon the model identifier of the MBP. It may or may not meet Yosemite requirements.

The contradiction is that the OP says he purchased the MBP in 2012, not that it is a 2012 MBP and that he has Snow Leopard, which can only be run on MBPs 2011 and earlier. We simply do not have all definitive facts at our disposal. 🙂
