5s stopped charging

My iPhone 5s has stopped charging completely. When it is plugged in it says it is connected and the lighting bolt indicator appears showing that the phone is charging. However, the battery life does not increase at all. I did a hard reset and it started charging but shortly thereafter it would stop charging again. The battery is completely dead now and wont charge at all. What may the problem be and is it fixable?
