SVG thumbnails not working - iBook library

I'm working with iBooks on my iPad air (IOS 8.1.2). I am generating ePub content for display in this environment. My work is validated with epubcheck within my <oXygen/> IDE. Up until now I have been using .jpg images as cover images and they display just fine in the iBooks library as thumbnails. I want to switch to SVG graphics so they can be dynamic with content titles and localization.

When I do so the SVG graphics render just fine on my inside cover (prior to the TOC) but it refuses to render as a thumbnail on the "library shelf". The ePub continues to validate just fine with epubcheck.

Am I trying to do something that is not yet supported by iBooks or is there something additional that I need in either the SVG graphic or the ePub infrastructure to make it work?

Thanks in advance for your help here

Steve

If you go to the top level of Apple Support Communities: https://discussions.apple.com/welcome, there is a whole section with five forums dedicated to iBooks creation. There is also a dedicated iBooks Author section in the other Apple Developer forums: https://devforums.apple.com/community/ibooks

I doubt that what you want to do will work, but it would be best to ask people who keep more up-to-date on ePub than me.
