In my Activity Monitor list I see "www.activision.com" and/or "support.activision.com" even though I have never, to my knowledge, had any dealings with that company and its products. What might this be? Is it malware? How do I get rid of it?

Activision is a big name games publisher/developer. Ever played Call of Duty? Well yeah it's those guys. My guess would be you have played games relating to Activision on your Mac.
Regardless, I have had a browse and found the following:
Try disabling Spotlight's 'History & Bookmarks' option. That's what that process is indexing. The website it'll show in activity monitor is random.

That is Safari. Each web page you open gets its own process and inside Activity Monitor they take the name of the web site you are visiting. Web site names are not always unique so this name might not be accurate. Plus, sometimes those "web pages" are actually just the little squares in your Top Sites screen.
