Finder folders expanded

When i plug my External HDD I get one List view and i don't want the files list to be expanded. I need the file view in the finder just classic like the previous OS all files shown in there folders not in the finder. How can i change the settings ? i have very large fillets and it crashes very often when yosemite tries to show up all the files in the finder of my music folder. I need them not expanded in their subfolders.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

There is only one List view, and you are looking at it. List View does not display files in the other folders. I don't quite understand what "expansion" you are referring to.

Try altering the 'Arrange by' sorting. I'm not sure where it is on 10.10, 10.9 has it under view > Arrange by… select 'None'.

Or use the button in the Finder window toolbar (between the 'gear' & the 4 view options in your image).

I'm not sure why that alters the Finders 'disclosure triangles' that expands the folder content.
