Lost all my songs on turning on iTunes Match

I Purchased iTunes Match on my MacBook Pro and have just turned on iTunes Match on my iPad which had 7000 songs on. I have lost the lot. The only songs in my music library are about 150 which I purchased from iTunes. How can I get my songs and playlists back?

Do you have the music on your MacBook or do you have a back up? The music needs to be in your iTunes library on your computer.

I'm sorry you had to learn this the hard way. As detailed at Subscribe to iTunes Match - Apple Support : "When you subscribe to iTunes Match from an iOS device, your local tracks (tracks that live on your device) will not be matched or uploaded to iCloud. Sign in with your Apple ID on a computer to match and upload your local music library."
