Sky/silverlight on my mac

Hi On switching on my i mac today i am experiencing major problems with pop-up ads.

Regardless of which web site i go on i.e apple, sky etc once the site is loaded pop-ups keep appearing and there are lots of them, some examples are 1. Media-file.org, 2. Jm-pe (powered by Offerz4u) 3.Videostripe 4.Lotto770.com 5. En.alon.gameforge.com etc etc Once i click on the x to remove other appear??

I have been trying to watch sky sports, but every time i try to sign in a pop up appears and i am unable to proceed.

I was also told that i have 10 couponsUser uploaded file on the apple webpage, but if i use the "go to folder"method to find and remove they do do seem to be in my library for me to remove.

Can anyone please offerUser uploaded file any help to sort this out

Regards

In response to the above problem yesterday I was advised to load www.adwaremedic, this solved the problem and i am now clear of pop up etc.

BUT ever since then i have been unable to log into Sky go, I get a prompt that suggests a problem with Silverlight, I have removed and reloaded Silverlight for mac several times but the problem still exists.

Could there be a connection to using adwaremedic? has anyone a solution or any suggestions.

Thank you

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10), Wifi network addition

Adwaremedic is a good product and is not causing a problem. One thing you may want to do to avoid popup ads is if you use Safari go to Safari - Preferences - Extensions - Add Extensions and add AdBlock.

This definitely shouldn't be related to using AdwareMedic, but may be related to other solutions you tried first. Did you install any anti-virus software as a first attempt at solving the problem? If so, try uninstalling that anti-virus software. Be sure to use the uninstaller provided by the developer of that software; don't just delete the app or use one of the various "AppZapper" or "AppCleaner" apps.

If that doesn't help, have you restarted your computer since removing the adware? If not, do so now. The adware may be left in a semi-functional state if the computer didn't get restarted after removal.

If all else fails, download a copy of EtreCheck:

http://etresoft.com/etrecheck

Run that and post a copy of the report it generates here.

Hi thomas_r. Thank for your reply

I haven't installed any anti-virus software and i did restart after running AdwareMed.

I have installed http://etresoft.com/etrecheck report copied below.

Before receiving your help i installed Firefox to try and log onto Sky and it works fine?, so does that indicated the problem is with my Safari?

Best regards

Well. I was just pointing out the obvious troublemakers. Under user launch agents you will see Zeobit, Mackeeper etc. Bad, bad, programs.

This is the best help I have found to remove MacKeeper ...

http://applehelpwriter.com/2011/09/21/how-to-uninstall-mackeeper-malware/

The Zeobit/Mackeeper programs can be difficult to work with so don't go to these sites looking for uninstall instructions. You may have to in the end but try my recommendation first.

Check the trusteer site to see if they give uninstall details.

Apr 22, 2015 5:27 AM in response to Flyfishermanbilly

I agree with seventy one. Trusteer is known to cause problems with Safari, so it's the prime suspect in my mind. Make sure you uninstall it properly, using whatever uninstaller is provided with the program. If you still have the original disk image containing the installer somewhere, or can re-download it, there is an uninstaller on there.

As for MacKeeper, it looks like it may have been deleted, but failed to fully remove itself. In the Finder, hold down the option key and choose Library from the Go menu. In the folder that opens, find the LaunchAgents folder. In there, find and delete the file named "com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper.plist". This LaunchAgent is listed as "failed", however, so that means it wasn't able to do what it was designed to (probably because the rest of MacKeeper is gone), so this is just a clean-up step and won't make any difference with regard to your problem.

I notice that you also have ZipCloud installed, which is often installed by adware installers. It should also be removed. See:

http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/relatedapps.php

(Fair disclosure: I may receive compensation from links to my sites, TheSafeMac.com and AdwareMedic.com.)

If none of that helps, let us know.

Apr 22, 2015 7:33 AM in response to thomas_r.

Hi thomas_r. Thank you for your reply

I ran adwaremedic as suggested but it did not pick out Zipcloud? have also removed "com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper.plist" from LaunchAgents folder.

As i am able to log into sky using Firefox but still mot able to log in on Safari (have been using Safari for last two yeras or so for this) is it possible that Safari

has a problem?

AdwareMedic won't remove ZipCloud, as ZipCloud is not actually adware. It is junk software that is often installed alongside adware, so it's not something I would trust to use. Make sure you have followed the ZipCloud removal instructions at the link I gave you in my previous message.

You didn't mention Trusteer... have you uninstalled that yet?
