I put that web address into a new tab, and there is no such web site anywhere with that name.
By default, Safari loads all previous tabs from the previous session. So it may be it's just trying to load a page that doesn't exist each time you launch Safari. Close Safari. Hold the shift key and relaunch it. That tell Safari not to load any pages from the previous session.
Hi Kurt,
Thanks for your reply. I tried your suggestion but there's no change.
The pop up window still sits, undeletable on my desktop.
Lenny.
Not sure what you mean by "undeleteable on my desktop". Do you mean you don't even have a web browser open, and this message appears every time you turn your computer on? If so, open the System Preferences and click on the Users & Groups icon. Click on your account and then the Startup Items tab. Is there anything listed you don't recognize? Or, take a screen shot of that list and post it here so others can see what may be the culprit (if any of them).
That is a site owned by Google, and used for serving some of Google's content.
My big question concerns the appearance of that alert... it doesn't look right for any of the three major browsers (Safari, Chrome or Firefox). Where, specifically, do you see this pop-up, and under what circumstances? I'm unclear from your description of whether this is only occurring within a web browser, or when you start up the computer and before you have yet opened a browser.
That's google 173.194.112.223
If you use the ip-adress you can load the side. Over the domain you got an 404 error.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Just to help us get what you see in our minds eye, take a Command + SHIFT + 3 'entire display' screenshot of this error message in every way you experience it...
I think he is gone. No response since April 21. 😟
Not gone. Thanks to all the suggestions from the forum. I'm still trying to find the solution
and I plan to try Adwaremedic.com today.
Although it won't hurt to try it, it's unlikely that AdwareMedic will solve this problem. If it does, I'd like to have details about exactly what was found and removed. (I'm the developer of AdwareMedic.)
Hi Thomas..I ran AdwareMedic and found there was no adware. The pop window, however remains stuck on my desktop.

Yes, that's exactly what I predicted. Unfortunately, we're not going to be able to proceed any closer to a solution unless you can provide answers to the questions that some of us have asked.
You should Check your Startup Folders and your Hosts-File. Open AdwareMedic and choose from the menu Scanner "Take a System Snapshot". Copy the content to Clipboard and paste it here or on paste bin - Whatever you prefer. Anonymize parts of the log like email-Adresses , personal Information and so on.
The "Pop Up" points to an invalid certificate - could this not be a Keychain warning informing of an out of date certificate or one that can not be verified. Not sure how to resolve but if you open Keychains and look under the Category section, click on the bottom "Certificates" and see if you can find one with "gstatic" in the description.
If you find one double click to open and just under the icon you should see a "Trust" section, you have the option to "Always Trust" if you are sure of the source. The other option is to request another certificate, but not sure if that happens automatically by deleting the old one or if you have to down load it manually - someone on the forum should have a better idea.
