I am trying to troubleshoot a slow iMac. EtreCheck showed that com.adobe.CS5ServiceManager.plist failed. Not sure if this is important or how to fix. Any suggestions?

I do not see anything obvious. Possibly someone else can see something.

You might try booting into Safe Mode which will not load 3rd party additions at boot time. If performance improves, then it is most likely a software issue. If that does not change anything, then it might be hardware.

<http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564>

The only thing I can think of hardware wise, is that your disk is 5'ish years old, and it is theoretically possible the disk is starting to fail enough to cause excessive retires on reads, but not enough to be reported as an error. That is the only thing I can think of, and that is just a wild guess.

You could always use more RAM, and if you want to give the iMac a speed boost, consider adding an SSD. I did this for a 2009 27" iMac, replacing the DVD with an SSD (OWC DataDoubler kit and 480GB SSD). My iMac is a joy to use now that it has 16GB RAM and an SSD as the boot disk.

Actually, the original hard drive fried itself in 2013, so I have a HD that is only a couple years old. However, I will look into your suggestions about adding more RAM, etc. I do video editing, and I'm also beginning to realize that there may be issues with my files going from camera, to computer, to editing movie. Checking camera and software settings - everything I can...

Some slowness has nothing to do with editing, just sluggish internet effects, won't type, that kind of thing.

Anyway, your input has been great - I will follow up on it.

Thanks again.

Penny

I am trying to troubleshoot a slow iMac. EtreCheck showed that com.adobe.CS5ServiceManager.plist failed. Not sure if this is important or how to fix. Any suggestions?
