Received macbook pro with new hard drive

I just got back my laptop today from a shop i had a warranty at and they installed a new hard drive and also a hard drive cable.

They gave me my old hard drive in a plastic bag and i was wondering if there was still anyway for me to get the stuff off of it because my latest backup was all the way in january which *****.

not sure if my old hard drive is suppose to have a cable connected because it doesnt. The problem with my macbook was i kept getting a white screen with a circle and dash going through it, during start up.

Is there anything i can buy to try and see if i can get the files off or what?

im not sure if the hard drive still works or what because they didnt tell me anything
