Vertical lines on Half of Screen HELP!

First of all, I did NOT drop my phone, get it wet, jar it in any way, shape, or form. I am very careful with it and keep it in a case 99% of the time. I was using it in my car and then when I got home I set it on the counter. I picked it up a few minutes later and unlocked it to check my email and all of a sudden, before I could open the mail app or do anything else, there were vertical white lines on the right side of my screen and that side of the touch screen is unresponsive. I am going out of town in two days and I NEED my phone. Is there any way I can fix this on my own? what causes this? what do I do? HELP!
