If it's in a backup, restore it from there. If not, back up your data(as a precaution), restart with the Command and R keys held down, and reinstall Mac OS X.

Deleting and reinstalling Safari isn't part of removing malware from the computer, except when doing so requires cleanly reinstalling the entire OS.

I doubt you had a virus. It may be a Mackeeper or some kind of adwares. In the history of Mac, very very few viruses were ever created to infect a Mac. In your case, the chances are very very rare. You shouldn’t have deleted Safari, as its the part of Mac OS X. To get Safari back, unfortunately you will have to reinstall the entire OS X.

Can you post a Etrecheck report of your 27” iMac...??

Download it, run it and post the report here.

    Hope this helps......

You can download it from the Apple Store for free (click updates)

Get the latest version of Safari for your Mac - Apple Support

if it wont let you do that there is a developer version (from APPLE) here which should work

    https://developer.apple.com/register/agree/

it's a PITA to get it but it's far less time consuming than a full reinstall of Yosemite.

Jimmy, I would have appreciated your efforts if you would have done some research on "Safari Download”.

As I said before, Safari is an integral part of Mac OS X. The OP has deleted Safari in fear of a Virus (Which is very very very rare).

Since, Safari is an integral part of Mac OS X, deletion of such Application will force the user to reinstall the entire OS X to get Safari back. Safari is not a separate app of Apple like Aperture, Garage band, iMovie which can be uninstalled and reinstalled any time from Appstore.

The link which you posted only briefly states the Safari. That link doesn’t make any sense. Also, the second link directing to download Safari for developers doesn’t show any download option. Anyways, users like us should never download such developer version because of stability issues.

I hope you got my point. Please don’t take my post as offensive.....

no offense taken, I treat Safari like IE, I don't delete it, but I don't use it either, it's an intergalactic cluster ****.

Apple did offer safari downloads from here, (confusingly available from the link above in my previous post)

    Apple - Support - Downloads

but not having ever replaced my Safari I don't know how comprehensive it is or if an earlier version would work on10.10.

It appears the Yosemite versions may be limited to bundled only which is a fabulous oversight by Apple.
