Does anyone have a newer version of how to get rid of adware pop ups?

I'm being inundated on both Chrome and Firefox with pop ups and mostly for companies and hotels in the Middle East (where I'm currently located).

I've gone through the previous posts but the procedure posted for January to paste the /Library/LaunchDaemons doesn't seem to work anymore. I'm on an Air OS X 10.9.5.

I can't find any Launchdaemon folder. Can you suggest where else to look without downloading anything else from the internet?
