Recipe for using 2 x Dell P2415Q at 4K, 30Hz with Mid 2014 MacBook Pro

Hi All,

Having read this thread I stumbled on a way to get both of my Dell P2415Q monitors working at 3840x2160 on my Mid 2014 MacBook Pro.

They may only run at 30Hz, but this is better than having one off and one on; in my case they're usually driven by a Mac Pro at 60hz, but I sometimes need to work from home on a Macbook Pro.

So, the monitors are connected using mini displayport to mini displayport cables and the trick is to go into the menu of both P2415Qs: Menu -> Display -> MST and select "Secondary". You should now get both screens lighting up and running 3840x2160@30Hz.

If, like me, you normally drive from another computer, you may find you need to do a Menu -> Display -> Reset Display Settings in order for the monitors to jump back up to 60Hz on the other machine.

Hope this helps!

Chris
