Apr 22, 2015 8:25 AM in response to Robert.Bethanyby Terence Devlin,Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

Apr 22, 2015 4:54 PM in response to Terence Devlinby FlutePixzy,This didn't work. When I go to Purchases, iPhoto is in there with a tab to Update. Click on Update and you get diddly-squat. Personally, I'm ****** that there was no notice given that iPhoto was being removed. The article they post regarding iPhoto use after Photos is installed is a big fat lie. The program is greyed out in my app folder and any attempt to update or reinstall is met with a big fat NOPE - ain't gonna happen. And crickets from Apple.

10.10.3 downloaded the new Photos app which you'll see in your dock.
All your photos from iPhoto will be in the new Photos App in your dock.

That's not correct. The Photos app has to be run and convert the existing iPhoto Library to a Photos Library where the photos are kept, not in the application.
If the user was using iPhoto 9.6.1 previously they can still run iPhoto on their iPhoto Library while using Photos on the converted Photos Library.
