Trying to backup my ipad2 to my macbookpro/itunes for the first time and I keep getting "an error occurred" banner. Previously it said "corrupt files". I have tried restarting both devices. What can I do?

There are a few things that you can try to get your iPad to back up with iTunes. Take a look at the first article below to go over those options, like checking security software as well as resetting the Lockdown folder. Another option is if you have iCloud, you can back up to there as well.
