My iTunes stopped recognizing my iPod Touch 1st gen

So I have a first generation iPod Touch. It used to connect to my Windows 8 laptop just fine. iTunes would recognize it, I could sync all my music onto it. But just a few weeks ago it suddenly stopped recognizing my iPod when I would connect it. I know it isn't the cable, because it still charges my iPod. I tried uninstalling iTunes, then reinstalling it - that didn't work. I currently have iTunes 12.1.2 for Windows. What should I do?
