Hi. I have just completed the back up of my hard drive using time machine and an external hard drive. I have two questions:
1) How can I check if it has been successful?
2) I now want to upgrade my browser to yosemite from snow leopard. Do I switch the time machine off, and disconnect the external hard drive during the process of upgrading?

Open Time machine and see what you have. Also check this link:

Yes you may disconnect Time Machine. However it would be helpful to know the EXACT Mac that you have to make certain it is compatible with Yosemite.
