I tried to restart my 2nd gen apple tv by holding down the menu button and the play button, then realized that was the wrong command. Now my remote won't talk to the apple tv and if I hit any button, the white light on the device flashes. I know the remote is not dead, I just messed it up somehow. Pls help!

I have exactly the same issue with my 2nd gen Apple TV as pepi8836. The Troubleshooting Note does not work because the apple TV only blinks 3 times at any remote command. Nothing happens regardless of reset, reset remote, restart, etc.

Sorry - none of the key combinations do anything other than making the apple tv blink white 3 times. Have replaced the battery - no effect
My remote no longer responds to the appleTV I have changed the batteries twice
tried all those steps on my 3rd gen as well to no avail, tried connecting it to my computer and now it just blinks fast and iTunes doesn't see it..........
I held down menu, and left rewind button in middle of remote (silver inner circle)and it worked .
My apple tv won't respond to the remote.
