Q: No ability to share in Safari 8.05

Today, when trying to send a URL to someone, I went to the Safari's File -> Share, and found NO LISTING for either email or iMessage.  The only thing listed for sharing, in fact, is Evernote.  I've turned up nothing in searches of these forums or by Google searches. I've tried quitting and relaunching Safari and rebooting the computer.  Safari seems to function normally in other respects.  I'm mystified.

What in the world is happening?

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Once in the Safari forum, I tried another search, simplifying it to "share," and I turned up a thread that referenced this Apple support link

 

That terminal command fixed my problem, but I'm still extremely curious as to what might have caused this.  Might it have been related to a minor upgrade that Apple released recently??
