Ipad is locked and "Speaking" all actions. Not opening. Tips?

This is the second time this happened. The first time a tech at work fixed it but now on vacation and can't get it working...

iPad is now "talking" everything I do. I did not manually enter "talk" mode in settings. Not sure how it happened.

I've force restarted it (sleep/menu button) but, once restarted, it is now displaying keyboard, asking for the for passcode to "unlock" the ipad. However, when I press the numbers of the passcode on the screen, the ipad "Speaks" them, but doesn't actually register the numbers, so iPad remains locked.

I tried syncing/restoring it, but iTunes tells me I can't restore it until I enter the password.

Any tips on how to get through the speaking-password problem and then to resolve this permanently?

You've turned VoiceOver on. Press and hold the home button until Siri is activated then say " Turn VoiceOver off."

If for some reason Siri doesn't turn VoiceOver off you have to tap everything once for the voice then double tap to activate. Go to settings> general> accessibility> VoiceOver> off.

For example you need to tap settings once for the voice then double tap to activate.

Then tap general once for the voice then double tap to activate.

Tap accessibility once then double tap.

Tap VoiceOver once then double tap.

Finally tap the switch once then double tap.
