How does Apple handle iPod repair request?

I have an iPod nano 6th generation. The power button no longer works. I went to the Apple site and got a quote of $72 for repair/replacement. Since the 6th generation is no longer made, is it logical to assume that Apple will replace it with a 7th generation? Anyone have past experience with this kind of thing?
