Apr 23, 2015 5:11 AM in response to carman50by OGELTHORPE,The problem you face in trying to use the iMac DVD drive to install and OSX on the G3 is that the iMac thinks that the OSX DVD is to be installed on it and will reject it. You will have to use an external DVD drive in order to install the OSX on the G3.

From what I can tell, some old G3's could only play CD's and some could not.
Sorry, but I have no idea what DVD drives would be compatible with the G3. This link indicates that it depends upon the exact model you have:
