I bought a used Power Mac G5 OS X 10.4.11 but the previous owner didn't clear the computer, and I don't know the admin password. But it is loged in. How do I clear the whole computer?

Hello,

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Utilities from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access the Menubar at top.

Starts up like the first time you buy a new Mac, but after filling in all that info again, you should have access to the computer and the other Users & files will still be there... give the new User a different name than an existing one.

And if by chance you did not get the system install restore DVDs with the computer, you

may be looking for Leopard 10.5 retail install DVD, at the mercy of reseller markup...

{There were separate DVD installers for the same era iLife and other applications, that

may also be out in the re-sell market; the original bundle kit was a good idea in the day.}

Or, try calling Apple sales support and ask to speak to an operating system specialist

about getting a replacement OS X Leopard 10.5 installer DVD. They may still be able

to make a non-retail copy, and send it to you, for a fee. (Provide product serial number

and be ready with credit info should they be able to fulfill your request for the product.

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂
