Just purchased a second hand Iphone 4s with 8GB of memory, it has iOS 8.2, i looked at the memory, it says the capacity is 5.3GB and availlable is only 4.6GB, i havent used anything on the phone yet apart setting it up so i can get to the home page, is that memory normal or is there something wrong?

You may try to reset your device:

A few gig is normal for system files, but the best way to ensure this would be to go into Settings> General> Reset> Reset All Settings. This will not erase any user data, but it will force the device to re-read it's internal information. You will have to re-add a few settings after this. Things like your wifi connection, alarms you've programed and a few other things.
