Unable to select Yamaha receiver as an Airplay device

I have a Yamaha RX-V477 receiver that features Airplay via an ethernet connection. I have it connected to my network, and according to the receiver's network settings, it's working properly. It appears along with my other Airplay devices in iTunes and the Apple Remote app, as long as the receiver is on, of course. But when I try to select it, I can't. I get the "spinning spokes" for about a minute, and then it times out. Does anyone else here have a Yamaha receiver with Airplay? Can anyone help?
