Can I put the digitizer/screen from my iPod Touch 2g (8gb) into a 3rd gen (8gb) model?

I've been hearing a lot of different stuff, for example is it true that the 2g 8gb and the 3g 8gb have the same didgitizer, but the 3g 32gb has a different one?

But ultimatley, all I want to do is switch screens with my iPod touch 2g (8gb) with my iPod touch 3g (8gb) as my 3g has a cracked screen, and I'd rather have the 3g in a better condition.

There is no 8 GB 3G iPod. 3G iPod were only made in 32 and 64 GB versions. This if you have an 8 GB iPod w/o camera and with volume buttons on upper left edge y have a 2G iPod. If not volume buttons it is a 1G iPod.
