Gifted iBook wont download

hi all,

Please can someone help with this? I gifted a friend an iBook which he has downloaded on his mac and iPhone. He wanted to download on his ipad air running iOS 8.2 but it will not download. The book looks like it is there but is greyed out. It will not download and cannot be selected for deletion.

We tried some of the fixes that we found from a Google search but to no avail. Fixes tried:

resetting ipad

un syncing iBook collections

cant delete iBooks as suggested in some 2012-2013 posts
