MY new iPod keeps downloading old emails. How can I stop it from doing so?

What kind of email account is this? If it is a POP account, then anytime that you add a new email client to the mix and the mail has been left on the server, it will act as though it has never received mail and download everything. If it is an IMAP account, you can set the number of days to sync. Also, if it is POP, I suggest that you delete some of your old mail from the inbox.
