Is there a way to convert Smart Albums (created from searches) into regular albums other than creating a new album, selecting all and dragging the photos over? Thank you.

No. Just select all the photos in the smart album and use the File ➙ New Album menu option to create a new album containing those photos in it. Then delete the smart album. No dragging required.
