Issues with internet speed

I have Time Capsule connected to the modem provided by the internet service provider.

For the last couple of weeks, the internet connection on all my apple devices have slowed down (watching movies on apple tv takes about 2.5 hours minimum before it starts streaming). I have done the speed test - the highest speed I got was 6.5kbps. I tried the wireless and wired connections to check the speed.

The technician from the service provided came into check, replaced the modem and tested the speed.

Everytime he got 14-15kbps where as all my devices are still not passing the 7kbps.

Anybody has any ideas as to what can the issue be?

Please help

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.10), 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 2GB 667 MHz DDR2

We need to get the values fixed up here..

If the Service Tech got 14-15kbps that is extremely slow.. worse than dial up. Do you mean Mbps..

What kind of broadband do you have.. ?? That is the kind of speed I would expect to see on adsl.. 14Mbps.

You say your devices are getting half that speed.. if that means 7Mbps, whilst it is slow.. getting the full 14Mbps is only going to halve the download speed.. so something doesn't add up.

Please post me the actual download speedtest from ookla. This is what fairly poor adsl looks like.

I want you to do one test at least from a computer plugged into the modem using ethernet with no wireless on.

Please post the info or the results link..

My mistake on the values - those #'s are Mbps not Kbps

I have a modern from Telus - the internet and cable provider. The package that I have gives me a download speed of 15Mbps

The results for the first test when the computer is on wireless connection

The following results for the second test are for the same computer that is connected to the modem by ethernet cable (tests done in a 10 minute frame)

Then I did test on my iPhone

On my phone, the connectivity is so poor that WhatsApp and my other chat apps don't connect to the internet, Mail does not download.

Please let me know if this information would be sufficient or if you need anything else.

Thank you so much

Your three tests by ethernet direct to the modem are pretty conclusive..

Your ISP is choked.. the tests go from 7 to 14Mbit in the space of 10min.

The problem is not your Airport.. it is simply your ISP is overselling their backhaul to your line or exchange or whatever method they use.

The upload varies just a wildly and pings are huge..

Since those tests are done without the airport in the system.. then I have to suggest there is something really wrong there.

Talk to your ISP again about over selling.. and the fact that you cannot get consistent speed even connected by ethernet direct to the modem.
