My iPhoto is not working since I installed last update for OS X Yosemite 10.10.3

Prior to the latest update (which added the new 'photos'), iPhoto was working fine on my computer (that

Now when I try to open iPhoto I get the following message -

'' In order to open "iPhoto", you need to update to the latest version.

The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac is not compatible with OS X Yosemite. Download the latest version ...."

I went into the App store to download the most current version and it's there (under my purchases) but when I select the update button, it does nothing...

And if I search for it in Aps, it's no longer listed.

I am not ready to upgrade to Photos (just not ready to take the time), I'm I out-of-luck? Do I have to change over now? or go back to the previous version of OS X Yosemite?

I have my iPhoto libraries (yes more than 1 - and 1 is 93 Gb), on an external drive plugged into my airport/time capsule, to update to photos will probably take hours :/

Thanks for any help/advice

Apple doesn't want to support iPhoto anymore, that’s why it’s " greyed out".

You can still open up iPhoto - warning: any changes you make in iPhoto, will not transfer over to the new Photos app.

To open iPhoto:

1. Right click on the greyed out iPhoto icon -

2. Show Package -

2. Contents folder -

3. Mac OS folder —

4. click on black iPhoto Terminal icon.

Terminal opens up with multiple windows and then iPhoto will open up.

Apple wants you to use the new Photos app, that’s why it’s in your doc.

If you want to use iPhoto on a regular basis make an alias of iPhoto Terminal icon and drag it to the desktop.

Rather more simple: just upgrade to the current version:

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1

If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash

Install the App from the App Store.

Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?

iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

Thank You!!

The old iPhoto, IMO, was vastly superior to the new Yosemite version. The files are along the side in the old version and far easier to access.

Plus, drag and drop does not work in Yosemite.

For me the iPhoto is #1 reason I use MacPro in the first place. Love it - but not the new version.

Photos is not a new version, it is a new app, and iPhoto is still on your Mac, you can use either. You have something more, not something less.

Your photos are in the iPhoto and the Photos library - deleting the iphoto application does not affect them - and of course you have a backup just in case - you certainly must always and especially when upgrading

Put the iPhoto application (after making sure your backup is current) in the trash but do not empty it - then go to the app store to update iPhoto to version 96.1

Why can I not drop and drag from the "new" iPhoto??

Or.. how do you drop and drag with the new iPhoto??

I've been searching all day for the answer.

I cannot add to the old iPhotos files - only use them as is - but I can still drop and drag and that's why I want to keep it.

When I went to the App store to upgrade iPhoto I got a message that the update is not available.

You need to give a full description of your issue. Drag and drop what to where from where. The new app is called Photos. There is no new iPhoto.

OK.

I can no longer post photos and graphics to my dog rescue group through Disqus. I tried several other forums that use Disqus that have photo posting with comments - not a single one of them worked when I tried to drop and drag with photo. I could still post - with great difficulty - if I clicked on the photo icon on the comment field - took forever for photo to load and then to switch back and forth between albums, photos, faces, etc. took forever. Never had this problem before Yosemite.

I’ve been posting photos/graphics there for years; after Yosemite, I can no longer do this.
