When I send a message to myself a drop down box says this address does not exist please verify, but' send anyway '

Other than correct set-up for use within an email client application (mail, etc)
to be sure the settings are right to use web based email in the system app,
you could check with GMail Help to see what else they say about it...

Though I've had a google mail account from earlier by-invitation days, it has
not been set up to use any software in the computers other than a browser.
