My iphone 4s won't charge

Hi. I got mayonnaise in the power port of my iPhone 4 (stupid, I know). I cleaned the port using a piece of tissue and by gently using a needle to take out some hard to get bits. Since I cleaned it the phone won't charge properly. Sometimes it will charge fully, sometimes it won't take a charge at all and sometimes it will only charge some of the way. I was thinking that the port may not be totally clean and I was wondering if there is a better way to clean it?
