Lost sound on iMac

I have an iMac 27" on OS X and I have lost all playback sound. The machine sounds are still there but I can't here music or video. I am not very technical, is there an easy reset for this?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

Is anything plugged into the sound port, speakers, headphones, etc.. Also have you checked the sound preferences in system preferences?

thinks such as youtube and the likes have their own volume controls if that is set to 0 what you experience would be the case.
