Final Cut Pro Quit Unexpextedly

I was using the Final Cut Pro trial. It ended today so I bought the full version.

After installing the full version the program crashes every time I open it.

Final Cut Pro will open, I can enter into a project and then it crashes and I get the below message (this is just the first part of it).

This is very frustrating as I have just spent £290 on this!!! Any help greatly appreciated!!!

All those crashes are likely to have left the preferences files for FCP X in an unknown state - which, in turn, can lead to more crashes.

So, before or in addition to innocentius suggestion, you should delete the preferences. This is very easy to do and an important troubleshooting technique that all of us need to use at some point: hold down command and option keys while starting the application, a dialog comes up, confirm.

Thanks for your replies! I have tried everything now and feeling desperate!

I have made a new user as admin and can open Final Cut on there just fine - no crashes. However none of my library or files are in this new user.

I also have many things/ preferences set up in lots of other programs etc on my current user so I really want to be able to use FCPX on it.

Is there anything else I can try?

I have called Apple but they have told me it's an issue with my user and they can't help me. ARGH!

It is very hard to know what is causing the conflict. Every mac is different from every other as people install their different software programs, helpers, plugins. etc.

I'd start by running OnyX to clear the caches in the hopes that a corrupt cache may be involved, but it may be some plugin, login item, etc.

As we go about it, it is always recommended to use an external drive for your content - and in this case, there would not be any problem in accessing the content from a different account.

You can get access to your libraries by either moving them to a new location or going into File Sharing in System Preferences and adding to the Shared Folders list and changing permissions for users. It's a little inconvenient but with Fast User Switching enabled it's not too bad

One other thing you might try is starting up in Safe Mode (hold down the Shift key when you start up). After you get to your user environment, restart the computer. Then (once again) delete [references as you launch FCP X. Post back to let us know.
